The Dwarf Cavendish banana plant, is a popular choice among home gardeners and tropical fruit enthusiasts, because of its compact size, reaching 6-8FT tall at maturity. The Cavendish fruit, measuring an impressive 8-10 inches, is well-known for its classic, sweet taste and bright yellow peel. It yields bunches of medium-sized, richly flavored bananas that are perfect for fresh consumption, desserts, or baking.

What sets the Dwarf Cavendish apart is its adaptability to container growing, making it suitable for those with limited space or a desire to introduce a tropical atmosphere to patios, balconies, or indoor settings. Despite its modest stature, the plant's broad and lush green leaves contribute to an ornamental and exotic aesthetic. Additionally, the Dwarf Cavendish is relatively easy to care for, requiring consistent moisture, regular fertilization, and ample sunlight. While it is hardy and can tolerate various conditions, providing a warm and sheltered environment enhances its potential for flourishing and fruit production.

Ideal Growing Conditions
USDA Hardiness Zones: 9B-11
Protect young plants if temperatures drop below 50F. Once established, they can take brief periods of cold down to 32F but expect some leaf damage. The entire plant can die if temperatures drop below 32F.
Perennial evergreen - will lose leaves if exposed to too much cold
Sun: Full sun is best for maximum growth and production. Can tolerate some partial shade but production will be decreased.
Soil: Everything grows best in soil that is heavy in composted organic matter BUT this plant grows just fine in a variety of soils without amendments, like my native Florida sandy soil.
Water: Monitor young plants and keep consistent water.
Fertilizer: Bananas are nutrient hungry plants. Fertilize every month with a citrus fertilizer or 10-10-10.
