UC 157 Hybrid Asparagus Seeds – High-Yield & Heat Tolerant Perennial Asparagus Vegetable Seeds
Asparagus officinalis
Listing is for 1 packet of minimum 50 seeds

UC 157 is a high-yielding, disease-resistant asparagus variety prized for its tender, delicious spears and early production. This fast-growing hybrid is known for its uniform, thick spears, making it a favorite among both home gardeners and commercial growers. UC 157 thrives in zones 3-10, tolerating a range of climates, and is resistant to rust and fusarium wilt, ensuring long-lasting asparagus beds that produce for 15 to 20 years! Start seeds indoors 12-14 weeks before your last frost, then transplant into well-draining soil rich in organic matter, in a full sun location. Be patient—asparagus takes 2-3 years to establish before harvest, but once mature, it provides years of fresh, flavorful spears every spring. A must-have for any perennial vegetable garden!

Asparagus is a rather large perennial plant with a deep root system. Choose a good spot that will be dedicated to your asparagus patch for years to come. It is very difficult to dig them out and move later, if needed. Plant them 2FT apart and cover with 3-4 inches of mulch. In colder climates, asparagus will die back naturally from the cold during the winter. This stimulates the plant to send up shoots in the spring. In warmer climates, with barely a winter, it is necessary to cut down asparagus plants to the ground in late winter to stimulate the plant to send up spears in the spring. After cutting back, fertilize and mulch.

Ideal Growing Conditions
USDA Hardiness Zones: 3-10. Protect young plants if temperatures drop below 40F.

Height/width at maturity: Each plant gets 4-6FT tall with a 4FT spread/width.

Sun: Full sun is best for maximum growth and production.

Soil: grows best in loamy soil heavy in composted organic matter.

Water: Monitor young plants and keep consistent water.

Fertilizer: Fertilize in early spring to encourage new shoot growth

How To Sow Asparagus Seeds: Start seeds indoors, in 4 inch pots,  12-14 weeks before your last frost. They take a while to germinate and to put on growth. Transplant once the root system outgrows the pot.

Harvest: It will take 2-3 years for a plant this size to start producing. You can start harvesting spears once they are finger thick.
