Beginner Gardener Heirloom Seed Collection Gift Set

This collection encompasses my top recommended crops for beginner gardeners. These are crops that are easy to grow, don't have a lot of pest/disease issues, and start producing harvestable food quickly from seed. These are great options for getting a hang of growing veggies and learning basic gardening skills needed to grow some of the more difficult/advanced food crops.

This is a great gift idea for new and experienced gardeners alike. The seeds are packaged together in a beautiful printed A6 envelope so it is ready to be gifted (see first photo). By purchasing this pack, your getting a discount at 6 packs of different varieties for the price of 5.

INCLUDED IN THIS COLLECTION

1. Black Tuscan aka Dinosaur aka Lacinato Kale - Out of all the kale varieties I grow, this one lasts the longest. It gets very tall and produces loads of dark leafy greens. If your in warmer zones +8, grow your kale and other leafy greens in a spot that gets bright morning sun and afternoon shade.

2. Beit Alpha - This cucumber cultivar was developed in the middle east so it boasts high heat tolerance. Its also a muti-use cucumber good for both fresh eating and pickling. Each female flower is self pollinating (parthenogenetic) which means increased yields. It has moderate disease resistance, very productive and burpless. The flavor is crisp and sweet.

3. Early White Patty Pan Squash - This is an easy introduction to growing squash. I choose this variety because it will start producing at 55 days from direct sowing the seed or transplanting into the garden, hence why its called "Early". Plants are bushy but on the smaller size making it manageable for a new gardener. Have BT or spinosad spray ready in case you notice chewing insect or worm damage. If you can master this easy squash, then you can easily grow the more difficult/needy squash cultivars.

4. Freckles Romaine Lettuce- This is an easy to grow lettuce variety with beautiful coloration. Lettuce is easy to grow from seed and you can start harvesting leaves at any stage.

5. Rattlesnake Pole Beans - This pole/vining green bean variety is a beast! It handles a lot of different climates and fluctuations in temperatures. It produces tons of green beans with pretty purple streaks. The entire pod is edible. Harvest them when they are around 6-7 inches long for the best texture.

6. Yellow Pear Cherry Tomato - I love the tear drop shape of these tomatoes. This is a very high producing cultivar of yellow sweet and savory tomatoes. Plants get very bushy and need support. Cherry tomatoes are easier to grow than bigger beefsteak tomatoes as they can handle a lot of disease and pest pressure before giving out. I always recommend to start out with cherry tomatoes and once you master them, move up to the beefsteaks.
