Garlic Chive Seeds
Garlic Chive Seeds
Garlic Chives Herb Heirloom Seeds
Garlic chives are not the same as regular chives as the leaves are flat, long, and broad. In my opinion, the flavor is a bit more like mild garlic than onions like regular standard chives. I love to chop them into 2 inch pieces and stir fry with noodles. The best part about this herb, is that it is a hardy perennial in zones 3-10. They handle cold and hot conditions very well. The plants like to clump and will spread horizontally by sending up new shoots. It will start flowering at the end of the season and creates a lot of seed. I like to plant them all around the garden and mingle in between my vegetable crops because onion scents are said to deter pests.
In Florida, most culinary herbs grow best during our fall, winter, and spring when we have our dry season. Herbs love warm & dry conditions. They do not like our rainy summers and tend to die off because of too much water. I grow all of my herbs in containers or grow bags which helps keep the soil drier and they tend to do much better.
