Learn how to grow green beans from seed all the way to harvest with my YouTube video tutorial: https://youtu.be/Mj5U3L7Qadw
This is and old Dutch heirloom variety of bush bean. Pods are a creamy yellow color with beautiful purple streaks. Pods get around 5-7 inches long and are wide and flat. Definitely a unique looking bush bean. This is a bush bean, meaning it grows into compact bushes which is great for small gardens. No need for trellising. Pods are stringless and tender. You can harvest the pods before the beans inside swell to use like snap beans. Or let the pods dry out and harvest the beans for storage. I highly recommend bush beans for beginner gardeners as they are easy, grow quickly, and produce something edible by the 2 month mark.

PLANTING
Germination: 4-10 days
Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 70-85ºF
Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep
Sowing: Direct sowing is preferred after the last frost. In warmer climates can also direct sow at end of summer for a fall harvest.
Harvest: Harvest pods before the beans inside start to swell so much that you can clearly see the outline of each bean through the outside of the pod for best flavor and texture. Dragon Tongue bush bean pods have a flat appearance instead of more rounded or pencil thickness like green beans.
