Learn how to grow green beans from seed all the way to harvest with my YouTube video tutorial: https://youtu.be/Mj5U3L7Qadw

French Horticultural beans are bred to thrive in heavy soils and provide an abundant harvest of on average 8" green pods. They are primarily used as snap beans when fresh, offering a crisp and satisfying texture. As they mature, their pods change into a vibrant combination of yellow with red splashes, making them perfect shelling beans (similar to pinto beans), ideal for soups, stews, and hearty winter dishes. They thrive in a variety of climates and are well-suited for growing in both container and garden beds. It is considered a half runner type bean, which means plants get bushy like bush beans but also have some short vining tendencies.

PLANTING
Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep

Sowing: Direct sowing is preferred after the last frost. In warmer climates can also direct sow at end of summer for a fall harvest.

Harvest: For snap beans and eating the entire pod - harvest before the seeds inside the pods start to bulge/swell. To harvest for shelling/drying beans - allow the pods to dry out on the plants and harvest on a dry day. Clean the seeds out of the dried pods and store away in a cool, dry, dark place for long term storage.
