King Tut Purple Podded Pea Heirloom Vegetable Seeds

This is a historic pea variety. The seeds are said to have come out of the tomb of King Tut. I love these purple podded peas because their purple color make them easy to spot on the plant for harvest. Plants are vigorous and vines get over 8 feet in length. Pods are not super sweet like the green varieties but still good in flavor. I like to eat them raw so as to not lose the purple color during the cooking process. They look gorgeous sprinkled over a garden salad or added to crudité platters. If harvested young while the pods are still flat, it can be eaten like snow peas. Or allow the peas to swell inside the pod and harvest to eat fresh green peas.

Follow me on social media because I talk a lot about the same seed varieties I sell here in my shop and gardening tips. IG, YT, and TikTok: jerrasgarden.

Listing is for 1 packet of 20 seeds - I do not have a lot of seeds. I grew a small crop this year as I was testing it out. I love it and will definitely grow a lot more next season.

PLANTING

Pisum sativum

Germination: 4-15 days

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep

Sowing: Direct sowing after the last frost date is preferred. It can get tricky trying to grow in warmer climates like zones 8 and higher. Peas absolutely do not like heat. Too much heat will stunt their growth and crisp the leaves. My garden is in zone 9B and I squeeze in a quick harvest by direct sowing in November and growing straight thru winter and into early spring.

Harvest: When the pods are young and flat to eat like snow peas. Or allow to peas to swell in size and eat like fresh green peas.
