Lollo Rosso Loose Leaf Lettuce Heirloom Vegetable Seeds

This is an Italian heirloom loose leaf lettuce. The leaves are frilly and make for a beautiful contrast in salads. Outer edges of the leaves have a pink/red coloration while the base of the leaves is more green. Loose leaf lettuces tend to tolerate a wide range of conditions, such as cold to hot temperatures. Loose leaf lettuces are great for the cut and come again method. I like to harvest each individual leaf as needed so it will keep growing and producing more leaves. I add a big handful of blood meal in the planting hole and that is the only time I fertilize. Blood meal is high in nitrogen and helps any type of leafy greens to grow an abundance of leaves with saturated color.

Germination: 7-10 days

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/4” deep

Sowing: Can direct sow after all danger of frost has passed. Or can start in seed trays/cells 4 weeks before the last frost date. In milder climates (like Florida zones 9, 10, and 11) can also start sowing in fall to grow through fall, winter, and spring.

Days to maturity: 50 days
