Learn how to grow green beans from seed all the way to harvest with my YouTube video tutorial: https://youtu.be/Mj5U3L7Qadw

These gorgeous deep purple podded beans are sure to catch your eye in the garden and dinner plate. The purple color makes them easy to spot on the vines for harvesting. I like to harvest them below 8 inches long. Pods are flat and wide like Romano style pole beans. The entire pod is edible and has a crisp texture. The purple color is due to high quantities of an antioxidant called anthocyanins. The color does disappear when exposed to heat such as cooking. Therefore, I like to prepare in raw recipes to take advantage of the unique color. Pole beans are vining type beans that grow best on a trellis. I follow square foot gardening guidelines but planting 9 seeds per every square foot.

Follow me on social media because I talk a lot about the same seed varieties I sell here in my shop and gardening tips. IG, YT, and TikTok: jerrasgarden.

PLANTING
Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep

Sowing: Direct sowing is preferred after the last frost. In warmer climates can also direct sow at end of summer for a fall harvest.

Harvest: Ideally harvest before pods get over 8 inches long, before the seeds bulge and beans snap easily.
