Cap 455 is a very unique sweet pepper that is a member of the Capsicum baccatum group. Most peppers in this group are hot, but this one is sweet without any heat. I found this to be one of the best tasting sweet peppers I ever had. It has a nice fruity flavor. Plants get very bushy and can grow over 4FT tall. It will require some sort of support or pepper cage because the stems are thin and heavy with fruit. The best time to harvest the peppers is when they start to blush orange/yellow. I found that if I left them on the plant until they turned all the way red, the peppers would quickly deteriorate. It is best to harvest when they start blushing and bring inside so they continue ripening up to red on your kitchen counter.
Peppers are slow to germinate and slow to start growing to transplant size. I recommend to start seeds in pots/trays with a heat mat to speed up germination. Then start fertilizing weekly with half strength fertilizer once the first set of true leaves appear. Peppers are similar to tomatoes in that they like plenty of water and are heavy feeders.
Peppers are perennial plants and can produce for several years if taken care of. In cold climates trim off all the leaves and bring in doors in a pot to over winter. Place back out doors once temperatures are nice and warm. In mild climates, pepper plants can be left out doors and might need to be covered on the coldest nights.

PLANTING
Germination: 10-14 days
Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 75-85ºF
Seed Sowing Depth: 1/4” deep
Maturity: This is a mid to late season pepper so expect it to start producing 80 days after transplanting.
Sowing: I highly recommended to start seeds in pots/trays as described above.
Harvest: You can harvest them at any color stage. They start out green and eventually turn red at full maturity. The best time to harvest this variety is when they start to blush orange/yellow like in the last photo. I found that if I left them on the plant until they turned all the way red, the peppers would quickly deteriorate. It is best to harvest when they start blushing and bring inside so they continue ripening up to red on your kitchen counter.
