I love these bush beans! Romano type beans are flat and wide. They are and best harvested when pods are 8-10 inches long. These are stringless even at 10 inches long. The entire pod is edible and has a very crisp texture. They are juicy and have a flavor that reminds me of cucumber and green beans put together (in a very good way). I follow square foot gardening guidelines but planting 9 seeds per every square foot.

PLANTING

Phaseolus vulgaris

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep 

Sowing: Direct sowing is preferred after the last frost. In warmer climates can also direct sow at end of summer for a fall harvest.  

Harvest: Ideally harvest when the pods are 8-10 inches long, before the seeds bulge and beans snap easily.
