Tainung #64 Sweet Potato Slips
 Ipomoea batatas

Listing is for a set of 7 rooted slips

***Please note that the majority of the foliage is taken off the slips to prevent water loss during the rooting process and while shipping the slips***

This is a very rare, vigorous, and productive variety of sweet potato from Taiwan. It is by far the best variety I have ever grown. Stems are thick and vigorous. Plants tend to form sweet potatoes in a clump at the base of the plant making for easier harvest. It is just like a standard orange skin/flesh sweet potato when it comes to texture and flavor.

I originally got Tainung sweet potato cuttings from Cody Cove Farms in Babson Park FL. Please consider purchasing slips from their website first before purchasing from me (unless they are out of stock or your located outside of FL). It is thanks to them that I was able to acquire some Tainung sweet potato slips and grow it in my own garden. Please support other native nurseries like myself who grow really unique and hard to find items.

When & How to Plant These Tainung #64 Sweet Potato Slips

If you are past your last spring frost date and all danger of frost - It is ok to plant them outdoors as soon as you get your slips. If the garden area is not ready, you can plant each slip in a 4inch pot with some potting mix and plant later.

If it is winter/fall time, or cold outside - Plant one slip in a 4 inch container with potting mix. Place in a sunny location and keep the soil warm. Do not expose to cold temperatures as this will kill the slips. If needed, pot them up as the plants grown. Plant outside once all danger of frost has passed.

Ideal Growing Conditions For Tainung #64 Sweet Potatoes

Soil: Sweet potatoes grow best in rich soil full of compost or organic matter. I have also grown them in native Florida sandy soil with the addition on fertilizer. They just take longer to mature in not so great soil when compared to nutrient rich soil.

Sun: Sweet potatoes require full sun, at least 8 hours a day

Water: Water regularly but allow the soil to dry out in between watering

Fertilizer: Fertilizer is not that necessary but will definitely improve plant vigor and tuber size. I like to sprinkle some Espoma Garden-Tone or 10-10-10 every month or so.

Ideal Growing Temperature: 85F or higher

I grow sweet potatoes in the ground or in containers like grow bags.
