Trap Crop Garden Seed Collection Gift Set
Trap Crop Garden Seed Collection Gift Set
Trap Crop Garden Seed Collection Gift Set (6 varieties for the price of 5)
This seed collection encompasses some of the best "trap crops" to lure bad garden pests away from your precious veggie crops. You will get pests in the garden. Might as well control where they go and what plants they decide to infest. If you decide that the pest population is getting out of control, it is easy to treat/spray the trap crops where the majority of the bad pests are congregating. These trap crops are grown on purpose to be sacrificial plants. I plant these varieties all over my garden, mixed into my veggie crops. Trap crops are one of the ways that I achieve my organic gardening goals and reduces the amount of treatments/sprays that I apply each year. This is a great gift idea for new or experienced gardeners, alike. The seeds are packaged together in a beautiful printed A6 envelope so it is ready to be gifted (see first photo). By purchasing this pack, your getting a discount at 6 packs of different varieties for the price of 5.
INCLUDED IN THIS SEED COLLECTION
1. Jewel Mix Nasturtiums - I plant loads of nasturtiums all over my garden because it is an excellent aphid trap crop. Plant them under or near crops that are easily susceptible to aphids like tomatoes, beans, and cucumbers.
2. Garlic Chives - A lot of pests dislike the smell of anything in the onion (allium) family. Garlic chives are perennial and form clumps of garlic flavored chive fronds. Plants are short, usually no more than 10 inches tall so they fit wonderfully under taller crops like tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants.
3. Autumn Beauty Sunflowers - Sunflowers are such an effective trap crop for stink bugs and shield bugs that its used as a trap crop at a commercial level. I notice stink bugs and beetles congregate on the flowers and leave my veggie crops alone.
4. Cleome - Not only are these flowers unique and colorful, but they also attract stink bugs and shield bugs. Plants get tall so fit along the edges of the garden or in the back of the boarder. They also attract pollinators like bees and butterflies.
5. Cracker Jack Marigolds - This is a tall African marigold variety that repels pests such as whiteflies because of its strong scent. It is even said to repel small animals and rodents who also do not like the scent. Plants are vigorous with large brightly colored blooms that attract a lot of beneficial insects and pollinators.
6. Blue Hubbard Squash - This is a favorite squash variety for squash bugs. Plant Blue Hubbard squash at the back or edges of your garden before planting other squash so it will start luring squash bugs away from the rest of your garden. Plus, the squash it produces are delicious and store for more than 6 months.
